More info

The CL division is part of the “Advanced Systems and Materials” department. Mixtures of two friction materials are used here:
Carbon / carbon components

Carbon / carbon composites are mainly used in aircraft brake systems. They allow to absorb the energy released during emergency braking (Airbus must brake from 320 km / h at 1200 m) and operating temperatures are above 1600 ° C. Carbone Lorraine is the main supplier for the Airbus A321.
For motorcycle racing, Carbone Lorraine also offers carbon / carbon components. In these applications, both the disc and the brake pads are made of carbon. This material is also used for brakes and clutch in Formula 1. In these cases, it combines high braking performance and low weight.

Sintered metal materials

These materials have several important applications:
TGV brakes, high-speed locomotives and transport trains are made of sintered metals due to their heavy weight and high train speeds (TGV must stop from 320 km / h at 3000 meters).
Carbone Lorraine is also present in the aviation industry, specifically delivering brakes for the Airbus A300, A310, Mirage F1 and Tigers and Sikorsky helicopters. Sintered metal materials are also used in military vehicle braking systems, such as the AMX30 and AMX10.
Due to the high energy released during braking, sintered metal materials are also required for industrial windmills, winches and mining equipment.
CL has recently developed a complete line of brake pads for racing cars (rally, Nascar). These products are currently used by some official WRC World Cup teams. The last group of sintered metal CL is the motorcycle brake pad division. This material delivers unrivaled braking quality: durability, power, braking sensitivity and efficiency in wet conditions. Each product is tailored to a specific application.

TWO-WHEEL ACTIVITY

Experience gained from aviation and railway applications has enabled the development of materials for motorcycle braking systems since 1994. Presence in racing activities since 1994 ( working with Dominique Méliand's Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (Endurance and Superbike) significantly enriched CL products (both sintered metals and carbon / carbon). Since 1996 CL has covered the range of sports motorcycles. Since then, about 30 new shapes have appeared every year to enable the company to offer a complete range for all types of motorcycles, scooters and ATVs. At the same time, the company has expanded its activities in motorcycle racing and is now present in all race types and classes. CL has decided to develop its applications for all two-wheel vehicles (road, off road, scooter), peace.

Close cooperation with Yamaha Motor France, Peugeot, MBK and Original Equipment is one of the pillars of Carbone Lorraine's know-how in the motorcycle field.

CL has also developed a range for snowmobiles, quad bikes and more recently mountain bikes.
CL's constant presence in racing allows the company to keep its product and development levels at the highest level. Every year a new racing mix is developed in collaboration with the best teams.
